Base fabric such as canvas or denim in the size of the finished rug plus 1 inch on all sides for hemming

Wrapping tool (instructions follow)

1.

Hem the base fabric on all four sides by turning in ½ inch and then ½ inch again and sew.

2.

On the front piece, mark the exact center.
|
3.
|
Then mark ½ inches away creating rows of ½ inch lines. Draw a square where you want the second color to go.

4.
|
Wrap the tool with the first color of yarn (black in the photo)

5.

Place the yarn on the line furthest to the left.
|
6.

Sew the yarn to the base fabric keeping the stitches in the middle of the yarn. Push the yarn off the tool as you sew. When you get to the end of the wrapped yarn, continue to wrap more until you have completed the row.

For multi-

color to another and back again when stitching the row.

Continue in the manner until the piece is covered. Push the previous rows out of the way as you sew.

Cut the loops.
