Hem Stitched Towel
You can whip up these towels in less than an hour. Hemstitching is something you see on very high end linens. These make sophisticated gifts.
1.
If you have a serger then serge the edges of the towel with a 4-thread over lock. If you do not have a serger then simply zigzag or overcast the edges.
2.
Fold over the two long edges ¼ inch and stitch this hem in place.
3.
Fold the back hem up ½ inch and stitch in place.
4.
Measure up from the front edge 3 inches from the edge and make a line all the way across the fabric parallel to the edge with a wash-away marker.
5.
Using a pin, pull out three rows of threads along the line you just made. Pull the threads all the way from one end of the fabric to the other.
6.
Fold over the hem to one thread below the pulled rows and press in place.

7.
Place strips of tear-away stabilizer under the hemline.
8.
Use a pin stitch, entredeux stitch, double zigzag or one of your choice, to stitch the hem. Choose one that you like by testing stitches on a small scrap of linen in which you have pulled threads and turned under a tiny hem.
9.
Add Embroidery approximately 1 inch above the hemstitching.
