6.
Sew a zigzag stitch (L=2.5, W=2.5) around the inside side of the lace heart.
7.
Cut the excess fabric from the monogram piece away from the outside of the heart as close as possible to the stitching.
8.
Insert the size 100 top stitching needle.
9.
Using a pin stitch, entredeux stitch or other heirloom stitch, sew around both sides of the heart. The stitches should start on the batiste fabric and cover the edge of the lace. If you are using a pin stitch, the “teeth” of the stitch should go into the lace and the straight part should be on the fabric. Refer to the pictures in the kit for the stitches.
10.
Change to the twin needle and thread it according to your sewing machines manual.
11.
Sew three rows of pin tucks along each side of the heart 1 ½ inches away on each side.
12.
With the fabric marker, draw the template for the hanger. If your hanger doesn’t match the template, you can make your own by drawing around the top edge of the hanger
13.
Cut out the template, adding ½ inch for seam allowance for all three pieces of fabric, the front, the lining and the back.
14.
Wrap the bias strip around the cording and base it into place using a binding foot or zipper foot.
15.
Place the lining fabric behind the front piece. It will be treated as one piece of fabric from this point on.
16.
With the binding facing inward and the raw edged together, sew the binding to the front piece.
17.
Place the back piece, right sides together, onto the front piece and sew all pieces together. At the top of the cover, leave a 1 ½ inch opening for the hanger. Do not sew the bottom of the cover together.
18.
Sew the lace to the bottom of the cover using the lace-to-fabric method described in the kit instructions.
