Materials

Scrap linen or heavy cotton fabric (each coaster uses two 6 x 6 pieces of fabric)

Rayon thread in white, red, green, brown and black.

Heavy duty wash-away stabilizer (6 x 6 for each one)

Embroidery
1.
On a hard flat surface, lay the wash-away stabilizer down.
2.
Lay two pieces of white linen on top of the stabilizer
3.
Hoop the whole stack.
4.
Embroider the first 4 colors.
5.
When the embroidery machine stops for color 5 (blue), change to white embroidery thread. (Blue was used in the photograph so it would show up better in the picture.)
6.
Embroider the next color.
7.
When the embroidery machine stops for the next color (white), take the hoop out of the embroidery machine, but do not take the fabric out of the hoop.

There are lots of in-the-hoop coaster designs on the market. You may even already have one in your stash. This one is made using the coaster design from Fresh Strawberries. The techniques for making them are the same for any design.
