With right sides together folded on the crosswise fold, draw the ½ of the Madeira template in the center of the table runner, matching the lengthwise center line.

Measure 6 ½ inches above and below the vertical center mark on the rectangle and place a mark. This will be the fold line for the hem on each side of the table runner.

Measure 19 inches each direction from the horizontal center mark on the rectangle and Place a mark. This will be the fold line for the hem on each end of the table runner.

Mark 2 inches above the side fold lines (17 inches from the horizontal center line) for the placement of the Madeira appliqué on each side. The bottom stitching line will be placed on this line.

|
Fold the linen with right sides together along the lengthwise center mark.
|
6.
|
Trace the end template on each end of the runner making sure the bottom straight stitching line is on the line marked in step 5.
|
7.
|
Using water soluble thread in the bobbin, stitch with (L=1.0 to 1.5) around all three template lines using the #75 needle.
|
8.
|
Remove water soluble thread from the bobbin!
|
9.

Cut away the inside part of the template area about ¼ inch from the stitching line. Clip the corners and curves.
|

Turn the table runner right side out. Finger press the edges created by the seam lines. Use a Shish-
|

Starch and press the stitching area several times. Make sure it is completely dry.
|

Pop out the stitches and lay the piece flat. Set aside.
|

Place the appliqués in the center of the 10 x 12 inch linen piece using the photo on the next page as a guide.

Place the appliqués in the center of the 7 x 10 inch linen piece.

Stitch around the appliqués using a small zigzag stitch (L= 1.5, W=1.5) using ecru thread
|

Pin the 7 x 10 inch piece in the middle of the open center of the table runner. The points of the appliqués should face the center of the runner.

Pin the 10 x 12 inch piece in the middle of the open center of the table runner. The points of the appliqués should face the ends of the runner.
