From the right side, tiny zigzag stitch, sew the miters at each corner. Sew forward to the edge of the miter.

Cut the excess fabric away from the miter.

Place the insertion lace around the inside of the linen square about 1 inch from the edge.

Miter each corner and pin.
8.
Using a tiny zigzag (L=1.5, W=1.5) attach both sides of the lace to the linen piece.
9.
Cut the linen down the middle of the back of the insertion lace. Clip the corners and press the linen away from the lace, back over the top of the handkerchief.
10.
From the right side, using a tiny zigzag, sew the miters at each corner.
11.
Starch and press the piece well pressing the linen away from the lace.
12.
Change to the 100 needle and using a small pin stitch (L=2.5, W=2.0) pin stitch around all the lace edges with the straight part along the linen edges and the “teeth” going into the lace.
13.
Carefully cut the linen away on the back of the handkerchief as close to the pin stitching as possible.
14.
Program the baby’s name or initials into your sewing machine.
15.
Using pink or blue thread, embroider the baby’s initial or name at each corner of the handkerchief.
16.
Lay the handkerchief on a flat surface right side down.
17.
Fold 2 ½ inches (counting the lace) up on one side of the linen enclosing the piece of ¼ inch ribbon against the fold.
18.
Fold 3 ½ inches (counting the lace) up on the other side of the linen.
19.
Sew a seam along the fold of the 2 ½ inch side, about ½ inch from the fold using a large stitch (L=5.0). This seam should run along the pin stitching line of the insertion lace. Do not catch the ribbon in the stitching.
20.
Sew a seam along the fold of the 3 ½ inch side about 2 inches from the fold using the same large stitch. This seam should run along the pin stitching line of the insertion lace.
21.
Make a loop in each end of the 5/8 inch ribbon and tack the loop to each side of the bonnet using the picture as a guide.
22.
Pull each end of the ¼ inch ribbon creating a small circle. Tie the ribbon into a bow.
