Directions
1.
Fold the long piece together right side out, creating a piece with a width of 21 ½ inches. This is the body of the case.
2.
Sew this piece together right side out using a ¼ inch seam allowance. Sew the side seam only.
3.
Press this seam flat. Trim off any unravelling.
4.
Turn the pieces wrong side out and press the seams flat again. Use the stabilizer to keep the seam from puckering, if necessary.
5.
Sew another ½ inch seam encasing the ¼ inch seam. This is a French seam.
6.
Sew another French seam on one of the open ends to create the back of the pillowcase. Remember, start with the right side out for the first seam; end with the wrong side out.
7.
Fold and press one of the bias strips creating a piece that is ½ inch by 43 inches.
8.
Attach this piece to the raw edge of the body of the pillowcase using a ½ inch seam and matching the side seams.
9.
With wrong sides together, sew the 43 by 8 inch piece on the 6 inch side using a ½ inch seam allowance. This is the hem piece.
10.
Fold the hem piece wrong sides together and press.
11.
Sew this piece to the open end of the body of the pillowcase with right sides together and matching side seams. Use a ½ inch seam allowance.
12.
Press the seam allowance toward the body.
13.
Finish the raw edge with a Hong Kong seam to enclosed the raw edge and allows the colored piece to lay properly on the outside of the case and help keep the color from showing through. Sew the bias strip to the raw edge that is to the outside. Turn the bias strip to the inside and stitch-in-the-ditch on the outside.
