2/3 yard white Swiss batiste
1/3 yard ecru, blue or pink Swiss batiste
2 pieces 8 ½  x 11 inch wash-away paper stabilizer
Size 80 universal needle
Size 100 topstitching needle
Wash-away basting thread
Blue wash-away fabric marker
White sewing thread
Cutting / Tearing

From the white batiste: tear 2 strips 4 x 45 inches for the ruffle,tear a square 10 x 10 inches for the Madeira appliqué, cut one squares 11 x 11 inches for the pillow back and tear 1 piece 12 by 12 inches for the pillow lining

From the colored batiste, tear 1 piece 12 by 12 inches for the pillow front
·
Cut the stabilizer into one 8 ½  x  8 ½  in piece.
·
Cut the rest of the stabilizer into 1 inch strips for the ruffle.
·
Cut any left over fabric into small pieces for testing stitches.
Madeira Center
1.
Press the 10 x 10 piece.
2.
Fold in half vertically and finger press.
3.
Fold in half horizontally and finger press.
4.
Center the template over the piece and draw the template onto the fabric using the wash-away marker.
5.
Decide if you want to stitch lines, circles, squares, or doodles.
6.
Stitch your design onto the fabric going over the lines by ¼ inch. You can design it before you begin and draw it on your fabric or you can “design as you sew.”
7.
Do not remove the stabilizer from the piece. Set aside.
